The Gorge Challenge
Back at the start of October I got the opportunity to shoot The Gorge Challenge, a Crossfit Hood River event put on by owner Jeri McMaster and my house mate Adam Mack. It was a really unique event, held under perfect fall skies and pulled off flawlessly for 65 competitors.
Crossfit is one of the most unique workout programs I’ve done, and probably one of the most beneficial for action sports athletes as it focuses on total body strength and range of motion, two key elements in avoiding injury when pushing your game on the water or in the snow.
Production wise this piece was a bit of a challenge, as this is the first clip I’ve shot with a flat, film-like profile in-camera and then run through the color correcting process using FCP and Magic Bullet Looks. A few key shots were woefully overexposed which led to some interesting results when it came to color correction, but nonetheless I learned a ton of mostly what not to do in the future when shooting for a specific look.
